‘Lindenwood’s own’ concert artists, ‘Anthony and Beard’, open the 2010-‘11 season of Music at Lindenwood with an ‘encore performance’ of ‘A Magical Musical Tour’, a delightful concert presented on the Dallas Symphony League’s ‘Parties of Note’ series in April 2009. The afternoon, presented in a beautiful East Memphis home, begins with a delicious cocktail buffet (catered by Party Tenders) and followed by the ‘musical tour’ featuring music of Fauré (France), Folks Songs (Spain and Ireland), Ellington and Gershwin (USA), and MORE! A beautiful setting, stirring music, delicious food – the perfect afternoon! Do not miss it. (‘Conductor’s Circle’ members of Music at Lindenwood will be our guests and the few remaining spaces will be available for $100.) (Anthony and Beard is represented by Philip Truckenbrod Concert Artists, Inc., www.concertartsists.com)
“The Christmas Spectacular” is always a highlight of the Memphis musical season and this year’s program promises to be one of the best ever! The nationally acclaimed Lindenwood Chancel Choir and Orchestra will be joined by trumpet virtuoso Ryan Anthony for such traditional favorites as “The Hallelujah Chorus”, “O Holy Night” and “Ding Dong Merrily on High”, as well as the area premiere of several exciting new arrangements and original holiday music! Join us for this spectacular evening of holiday celebration!
General Admission tickets are available for a $12 donation after September 15. Music Office - 901-458-1652.
Lindenwood organist Chris Nemec offers his annual benefit concert, this year supporting Memphis Child Advocacy Center. With a ‘holiday flare and cabaret feel’, Chris will sing, play and entertain you with such favorites as “Rudolph, the Red-nosed Reindeer” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” and ‘The Grand Finale’ featuring audience requests woven into a thrilling medley! General Admission donation is $10. or $50 for Golden Circle (reserved seating and amenities.) 901-458-1652
Since its first performance in 1742 at Dublin’s Foundling Hospital, Handel’s “Messiah” has become one of the most revered and performed of all oratorios. It has been presented thousands of times with numerous and quite varied musical resources, including staged versions with hundreds of actors - and even live animals, and with very large choruses and orchestras. However, the premiere chorus consisted of 21 singers with small chamber orchestra, and as they have for many years, The Gary Beard Chorale, Orchestra and Soloists present Part, the First (The ‘Christmas’ portion) of this favorite work with musical resources, tempi and pacing much in keeping with that debut performance. Please join us for this beautiful musical depiction of the Advent and Birth of Christ. This concert is free and no tickets are required.
Join us for this ‘official’ celebration of Lindenwood’s newly renovated sanctuary as The Chancel Choir and Orchestra present “Morning Has Broken – A Symphony of Hymns” for large chorus, orchestra and organ by Diane Bish. This thrilling work received its area premiere in another ‘celebration concert’ at the church in 1984 with the composer conducting, and the finale is dedicated to Gary Beard, so it is most fitting that this now highly regarded sacred masterwork be featured in this special concert. The program will also include the finale of Saint-Saens ‘Organ Symphony’ as well as the premiere of a new arrangement of “All Creatures of Our God and King” by Barlow Bradford. Do not miss this exciting – and historic concert celebration! The concert is free and no tickets are required.
Christ’s suffering on the cross is remembered on Good Friday, April 22 at 5:30 PM as The Lindenwood Chancel Choir, Orchestra and Soloists present Theodore Dubois’ dramatic and much loved choral masterwork, “The Seven Last Words of Christ” in a service which also features meditations by seven of Memphis’ leading clergy with guest soloist Luis Orosco in the role of Christ. Then, The Glory of The Resurrection is celebrated in the triumphant music of Easter featuring The Chancel Choir, The Gary Beard Chorale, Orchestra and Dallas Symphony principal trumpeter Ryan Anthony on Sunday morning, April 24 at 8:30 and 11:00 with The Rev. Dr. Ron M. Buck, Senior Minister, preaching.
