“Music at Lindenwood 2012-‘13” opens with what can truly be called a miracle concert! Since his recognition as a remarkable and unique talent while at Juilliard, internationally acclaimed pianist John Bayless has played for royalty, performed with every major orchestra and prestigious music center throughout the world, studied with and had music written for him by Leonard Bernstein, and has made numerous award-winning recordings, including a top ten best-seller and a ‘Billboard No 1 selling album’! Though this storybook career appeared to be over when he suffered a stroke in August 2008, this remarkable musician and entertainer returns to Lindenwood to perform a new work he has written for the left hand, several of his earlier hits which have been adapted for the one hand, including “Theme from ‘Schindler’s List’”, and many more! You will enjoy his delightful wit and personality, but he will also share the struggle and ultimate triumphs that have brought him back to the stage! Do not miss this special afternoon of extraordinary music and inspiration as John Bayless returns for his 5th Lindenwood concert! ( http://www.johnbayless.com ) This is a free concert and no tickets are required.
When he sang the baritone solos in the 2011 Lindenwood performance of Dubois’ ‘Seven last Words of Christ’ the question from everyone who attended was not IF Mark Diamond was coming back - but WHEN! He is the winner of numerous prestigious awards, including the 2012 Sara Tucker Study Grant from the Richard Tucker Foundation, first prize in the Houston Grand Opera competition (from a field of 700!), a member of the San Francisco Opera Merola program, the 2010 Richard F. Gold Career Grant from the Shoshana Foundation, in addition to the many awards he received while a student at the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music! We welcome this magnificent talent back to Lindenwood and he is joined by The Gary Beard Chorale for an afternoon of favorite music including baritone ‘signatures’, “The Impossible Dream”, “I, Don Quixote” and “This Nearly Was Mine”. Do not miss the rare opportunity to hear this rising ‘superstar’ (while we can still afford him!) http://www.markdiamondbaritone.com This concert is free and no tickets are required.
“The Christmas Spectacular” is always a highlight of the Memphis musical season and this year’s concert can truly be called SPECTACULAR as The Lindenwood Chancel Choir and Orchestra present a ‘best ever’ concert celebrating the 35th anniversary of this always popular concert! You will enjoy traditional selections as “The Hallelujah Chorus”, “O Holy Night” and “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”, as well as holiday favorites which audiences have requested throughout the last 34 seasons. Trumpet virtuoso Ryan Anthony will play “Bugler’s Holiday” and there will be surprises – of course! Do not miss this especially spectacular evening of holiday celebration!
General Admission tickets are available for a $15 donation after September 17 at 901-458-1652.
Christ’s suffering on the cross is remembered on Good Friday, March 29, 2013 at 5:30 PM as The Lindenwood Chancel Choir, Orchestra and Soloists present “Of the Passion”, choral masterworks from the requiems of Mozart, Verdi, Brahms, Rutter and Fauré, in a service which also features meditations by seven of Memphis’ leading clergy. Join us and invite your friends for this annual service of music and reflection.
The Eroica Ensemble is one of Memphis’ newest and finest ensembles and their concert at Lindenwood last season is still ‘creating buzz’! We are delighted to welcome this talented ensemble back for another afternoon of memorable music which will feature two of ‘our own resident artists’ as soloists! Gary Beard will join the orchestra to play Saint-Saёns exciting Symphony No. 3, ‘the ‘Organ Symphony’ and trumpet virtuoso Ryan Anthony will be the soloist in Albinoni’s fiery and thrilling “Concerto Saint Marc”. Founding conductor and native Memphian Michael Gilbert, who retired from the New York Philharmonic after over 30 seasons, will conduct. This will be an afternoon of music NOT to be missed! www.erociamemphis.org ; www.anthonyandbeard.com General Admission tickets are available for a $15 donation after September 15 at 901-458-1652.
