Their concerts take Anthony and Beard across the country each season – even to Russia last year, and with Ryan’s recent appointment as Principal Trumpet with the Dallas Symphony, their performances in Memphis have become quite rare. So when The American Guild of Organists-Memphis Chapter asked Gary and Ryan to play on their concert series, Music at Lindenwood was delighted to partner with The Guild to present Anthony and Beard in their only scheduled concert ‘at home’ this season. Their program will include works from their recordings as well as selections most requested by their many friends in Memphis. Do not miss this opportunity to hear Memphis own highly acclaimed duo in concert. The concert is free and no tickets are required. (Anthony and Beard is represented by Philip Truckenbrod Concert Artists, Inc., www.concertartsists.com)
“The Christmas Spectacular” is a highlight of the Memphis musical season and this year’s program will include traditional favorites such as “The Hallelujah Chorus”, “O Holy Night” and “O Come, All Ye Faithful”, a beautiful new arrangement of the Austrian carol, “Still, Still, Still”, a thrilling new setting of “Joy to the World” written for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and much more – including, of course, surprises!
General Admission tickets are available for a $12 donation after September 15. Music Office - 901-458-1652.
Since its first performance in 1742 at Dublin’s Foundling Hospital, Handel’s “Messiah” has become one of the most revered and performed of all oratorios. It has been presented thousands of times with numerous and quite varied musical resources, including staged versions with hundreds of actors - and even live animals, and with very large choruses and orchestras.
However, the premiere chorus consisted of 21 singers with small chamber orchestra, and as they have for many years, The Gary Beard Chorale, Orchestra and Soloists present Part, the First
(The ‘Christmas’ portion) of this favorite work with musical resources, tempi and pacing much
in keeping with that debut performance. Please join us for this beautiful musical depiction of the
Advent and Birth of Christ. This concert is free and no tickets are required.
'Messiah': autograph composition draft, 'Amen Chorus'. George Frideric Handel, London, 1741
Lindenwood’s own ‘resident artists’ Chris Nemec and Kevin Kenny will present a unique concert that will feature music of Clementi, Schubert and Rachmaninoff, as well as arrangements of Bach-Gounod’s “Ave Maria”, “Malaguena” (Bolero Espanol) from Lecuona’s Andalucia Suite and thrilling settings of hymns and folk songs. Join us for this afternoon of beautiful duo-keyboard music.
The concert is free and no tickets are required.
Christ’s suffering on the cross is remembered on Good Friday, April 2 at 5:30 PM as The Lindenwood Chancel Choir, Orchestra and Soloists present Gabriel Faure’s dramatic choral masterwork, “Requiem” in a service which also features meditations by seven of Memphis’ leading clergy. Then, the glory of The Resurrection is celebrated in the triumphant music of Easter featuring The Chancel Choir, The Gary Beard Chorale, Orchestra and Dallas Symphony principal trumpeter Ryan Anthony on Sunday morning, April 4 at 8:30 and 11:00.
