Jeremiah 18:1-11
The Lord instructed Jeremiah to go to the potter’s house. The potter had worked with the clay until it was ready to mold into a useful vessel. His hands were turning the lump of clay into a thing of beauty when, for some unforeseen reason, the vessel was ruined. Using the same clay, the potter was able to make it into another vessel. If that nation against whom I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I thought to bring upon it. Jeremiah 18:8
The lesson for Jeremiah is that the clay is in God’s hand to do with it as He pleases. The spoiling of the vessel was not God’s fault. It was Israel’s fault for ignoring God and ‘walking according to her own plans’. We do the same thing when we know what we should do, but, instead, do what we want to do. We are here for God’s purpose. He gives us the ‘know-how’ to accomplish that purpose. It still takes a lot of prayer and living a Christ-like life to use our spiritual gifts for His purpose.
How can you tell when you are pleasing God?
